Greek Cuisine

Today, Greeks eat some meals such as stuffed grape leaves, vegetables, grain products and fruits their ancestors had in ancient times. Greeks rely more on fish and seafood than meat. Fresh vegetables and fruits also play an important role in the Greek diet. The Greek diet was influenced by traditions from both the East and West where spices such as cinnamon, cumin, allspice and cloves play important roles. The most characteristic of a Greek cuisine is olive oil used in most dishes. They also use common herbs such as fennel seed, basil and thyme in their diet which helps to manage and prevent heart diseases, diabetes and cancer, reduce blood clots and provide anti-tumour and anti-inflammatory properties.

Some of Greek finest dishes are hummus platter, the ultimate Greek comfort food pastitisio, made from layers of pasta, juicy minced beef and velvety béchamel sauce baked together and olives.
